Computer Network Administration

Most often business and computer facilities are monitored by highly skilled Computer Professionals. This skilled worker is a member of one of the most challenging and rewarding career paths in today's High Tech Workplace. If you like computers, technology, and helping people maintain productivity the Computer Network Administration Program at Howard High School of Technology is for you.

Occupation Description: Install, configure, and support an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet system or a segment of a network system. Maintain network hardware and software. Monitor networks to ensure network availability to all system users and perform the necessary maintenance to support network availability. Network Administrators may supervise other network support & client server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures.

      GRADE LEVEL TRAINING
 
 10th Grade
 
Students careers are jump started with hands-on Computer Hardware and Network Construction exercises. Students will also install and maintain Windows XP Desktop Operating Systems. Along with technical skills; interpersonal skills, customer relations, and workplace ethics are constantly reinforced.

Our First Year is a balance of instructor discussions followed by hands-on lab experiences.

Students will Job Shadow with an Industry Partner.

 
 11th Grade
 
Students Hardware Focus will change from a single machine to a networked environment. What type of hardware is needed to connect the machines within a company or across the Internet? How does the network equipment communicate? Students will install and configure Windows servers. Activities include: domain controllers, web and ftp servers, backup, security, and TCP/IP.

Students will participate in Job Practicum with an Industry Partner.

 
 12th Grade
 
Students will continue to configure and maintain Windows Servers. Students will work in small groups and independently performing maintenance and troubleshooting operations on the systems to include setup and testing of wireless systems.

Students will finalize their their previous Web Page lab work by building and maintaining their own Web Site and Web Server in the classroom.

Students will analyze customer service & workplace ethics to prepare for the world of work.

 
 12th Grade Employment
 
With the Career Instructor recommendation, the student will participate in the co-operative education phase of the Computer Network Administration Program.

Co-op students attend academic classes at Howard in the morning and go to work with one of our industry partners in the afternoon.

Students can play sports while participating in the co-operative education program at HHST.
